He started a fund to help the NHS with costs, originally to raise £1,000, during the Covid19 outbreak. However, such was the emotional upsurge for him that he has raised over £12,000,000 .
There are calls for him to be made a Knight. He would become Sir Thomas Moore…Let’s hope he gets that.
In order to raise the funds Capt Tom was sponsored to walk around his garden 100 times. No mean feat when you are told that he is about to turn one hundred years old and walks with the aid of a zimmer frame.
This is my ode to Capt Tom. I’m hoping the David Bowie estate won’t mind me borrowing one of his tunes – it’s only a bit of fun in appreciation of what Capt Tom has achieved.
For those interested I spend my time attempting to write books. I have it all planned out in my head and in numerous places around the house etc. Three books are planned which form a series. This is the plan which helps me look to the future.
To be fair, it’s hard to focus and I’m easily distracted as a change of scene helps deal with physical issues so I tend to go with the flow. Recently I have had a breast cancer scare and although thankfully nothing sinister is going on, the whole affair made me realise I’m always living life on the edge in an emotionally sense.
Often I am reading about climate change and how it is about to end the world (which could be happening) alongside rubbish like the gas we breathe out (CO2) is bad for the environment (which is stupid).
I wonder if these two are somehow related. Reading about some religious folk telling me how fantastic their religion is and I read about the awful things their religion does…related because religious folk also talk about the end of the world, and how they will be saved from the destruction.
Generally these religions lie when they say they are peaceful…they are peaceful in the location they are collecting monies in but further field a certain doctrine is used until fear takes over in rational minds and are people are subdued.
I’m told having a scientific mind and not believing in god is evil. Laugh my fucking butt off and roll it across the carpet. Perhaps it is because I have faith in humans I can live with myself.
My belief is that religion is a cult of heathens tied to our distance past who just wont let go of ancient ways because of money. I’m profiled by religious doctors and by a society which can not handle the truth about itself. Or worse, paints it’s fellow man with the same desires and ambitions.
From my home I can see the Seventh Day Evangelists headquarters, a Islamic mosque, the Mirror Print facility and a skip yard. I often wonder which ones spills out the most rubbish in a day.? The skip yard is filthy…but you can see the dirt. It becomes recycled material which has some use to our society.
The Mirror Print facility not only prints my favourite paper, The Mirror, but also all the other major newspapers, such as the Telegraph, Independent, The Sun and The Guardian as it is expensive to do print runs and it is the largest facility left.
Life is full of hypocrisy and bullshit. Five words kept drilling me over and over so in the end I grabbed my guitar. This song came about from the ether. My current coping mechanism appears to be writing simple songs which are a joy to play perhaps not so on the ear but a joy to play and sing none the less!!!

I’ve not been able to get my head in the game. Finding it difficult to focus on what I should be doing is an occupational hazard of working from home and being poorly. You often risk productive time being frustrated.
I used to fight writer’s block and sit looking at the pages. Panic that I will never finish this book. Maybe I’d write something but essentially I’d get little done that was worthwhile. Hours spent forcing yourself to write rarely work.
For me, getting up and moving away from the keyboard is the only answer.
This week I picked up the guitar. I’d formed a some pretty lines whilst staring at the moon from my kitchen window. I was thinking corny thoughts, such as this is the same moon being viewed by billions of people. The same moon we are all looking at or walking under the light of. The same moon my current crush would be looking at.
Saturday, the song line was still in my head. It is the same moon, it is the same stars, it is the same sun for everyone. By Sunday it was forming into a little melody and by Monday I realised I’d written something rather sweet! I think it has an inspirational feel to it, almost like a hymn.
Yesterday, for the first time ever, I was able to work out the notes of my song in my head. I wrote it down with the lyrics after I’d strummed it out on the guitar. By ear. I cried…this is real achievement. Something I never thought I’d be able to do.
It has taken years. I started learning music and to play guitar in my thirties. An amateur photographer David Brockburn gave me a guitar when he moved home and found he had little room for it. It truly was a great gift.
The guitar went in my daughter’s room for a bit then my son’s room and eventually it found it’s way into mine. I wanted to play so badly that so I ordered Bob Power’s ‘Learn Guitar. Book One.’ With Bob’s easy to follow instructions I had the basics down in no time and was playing simple songs and able to pick through most sheet music within months of starting to learn.
Because of bent fingers I’m able to do certain chords rather awkwardly if at all and have to adapt some music for myself. This makes it difficult to play with others, so jam sessions have never happened. Sad face. However, I love playing and my grand daughter is delighted by anything I can manage to sing and play.
This song is going out to everyone. I’ve video’d myself doing the chorus so that you should be able to work out the rest of the song yourself should you wish. There is no fee ever for using the song or adapting the song as you wish as such it is a giveaway. Obviously I wrote it and nothing changes that.
